Research and Collaboration
A number of LSQ Members are currently conducting research into solar and geothermal energy – many in collaboration with industry and government. The University of Queensland (UQ) has created the largest flat panel PV array in Australia and has a broad solar R&D portfolio109. The University is also conducting innovative research into geothermal energy and biofuels.Queensland University of Technology (QUT) is conducting research into the use of dye-sensitised solar cells to power sensors for data collection in remote areas using nanomaterials109.James Cook University (JCU) has developed "a collaborative partnership with MBD Energy" and they are conducting research into micro-algae110. To date they have "successfully shown that micro-algae can effectively capture carbon emissions and the captured carbon can generate valuable co-products"110.Griffith University (GU) is focusing heavily on clean and renewable energy through the University’s Centre for Clean Environment and Energy. The University of Southern Queensland (USQ) also has a number of collaborative research projects exploring "alternative fuels, systems and technologies"110.*Please refer to the 2013 LSQ Member Directory for references.
