Animal Industries

The Queensland Government supports the profitability and sustainability of the State's agriculture by providing a number of important animal industry services, such as beef breeding services, and information on vaccines. The State has a reputation for clean, safe and ethically produced animal products, largely due to the stringent biosecurity measures and traceability systems put in place by DAF through Biosecurity Queensland. Queensland’s animal industries include a wide range of products from livestock, dairy, wool and eggs.As Australia's largest supplier of beef products, Queensland is renowned for producing high quality and safe beef products, and using the world's best animal ethics practices. Beef products have been kept safe from many serious diseases that have threatened the industry in other parts of the world, including foot and mouth disease and bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE). This is largely due to Australia's National Livestock Identification System (NLIS) which has been put in place for lifetime traceability of Australian cattle. The NLIS aims to ensure the individual identification of animals tracked from birth through to slaughter, and assists with control of disease outbreaks in Australia. The State's pig production and pork supply, honey production (through more than 80,000 commercial bee hives), commercial kangaroo industry, lamb and poultry industries – including improvements in the genetics of poultry birds and processing techniques – also substantially contribute to its economy and regional communities.
