Life Sciences Queensland (LSQ) is delighted to congratulate its former CEO, Mr Mario Pennisi on receiving the BIO Leadership and Legacy Award in Industrial Biotechnology and Agriculture.
LSQ CEO, Mrs Claire Blain said there is no one more deserving of this recognition.
“Mario’s vision and big picture thinking has played a pivotal role in accelerating the progress of life sciences in Queensland and promoting their far-reaching social and economic benefits.
“Under Mario’s leadership, Queensland companies have had the opportunity to make a significant impact to help feed, heal and fuel the world,” Mrs Blain said.
Mario will receive his award at the 2019 BIO World Congress on Industrial Biotechnology and AgTech in Iowa, USA next month.
Queensland State Development Minister Cameron Dick said the award is well deserved.
“Mario has worked tirelessly to help secure Queensland’s reputation for commercial and research excellence in life sciences,” Mr Dick said.
“His leadership and pioneering spirit are to be commended.”
In his role as CEO of LSQ, Mario championed numerous initiatives including the World Food Alliance, which saw the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between key partners from Queensland and Africa to improve the nutritional profile of agricultural products. He also initiated the Memorandum of Understanding between the United States Navy and a number of Queensland companies for the provision of biofuels.
LSQ Chairman, Professor Peter Andrews AO, who worked with Mario for 20 years, was a key advocate for him receiving this award.
“This award recognises Mario’s leadership, ambition and passionate championing of Queensland’s life sciences industry, both locally and globally,” Professor Andrews said.
“Mario’s work and commitment was instrumental in fostering LSQ’s authentic opportunities and attracting investment, talent and knowledge to help Queensland’s life sciences prosper. Mario cemented the foundations for a healthy life sciences industry in Queensland, and LSQ continues to ensure its ongoing growth and success.”
