Vascular Enhancement Technology Pty Ltd was formed in 2005 to develop and commercialise V-PUMP, a small, portable device
designed to reduce the incidence and severity of Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) - a debilitating type of blood clot, primarily in legs.
Aside from its small size and portability, the unique feature of V-PUMP is its patented sequence which prevents backflow of blood
and stasis even in patients with defective one way venous valves. This means that V-PUMP is effective treatment for 100% of users
compared to only 50-80% with other devices requiring fully functioning venous valves when the user is standing or walking.
The V-PUMP has been developed in co-operation with Professor Ross Crawford, orthopaedic surgeon and Chair in Orthopaedic
Research at the Queensland University of Technology.
The V-PUMP has been tested in a number of pilot studies, including one involving 20 postoperative orthopaedic patients, with very
encouraging results that showed the device to be safe and effective.
The Company is actively looking for corporate partners and investors to enable V-PUMP to start production and get into the market
as soon as possible.
Whilst V-PUMP was developed primarily to prevent the life threatening dangers of DVT, its unique assistive blood flow technology has
applications in many different market sectors other than in-hospital use. New and currently untapped markets exist for V-PUMP such
as home use for post-operative surgical patients, pregnant mothers (at increased risk of DVT during pregnancy) and for people suffering
from leg oedema or venous ulcers; nursing home and aged care facility use for leg oedema and venous ulcer sufferers; in addition,
long haul international travellers and at risk individuals including sedentary workers and diabetics could also benefit from the enhanced
blood flow that V-PUMP delivers in a small portable device.
