Nirmal Seeds Pvt. Ltd. (NSPL) was established in 1988 by the agripreneurs at Pachora in Jalgaon District of Maharashtra state, one of
the most progressive states of India. NSPL is an ISO 9001-2008 accredited company. The company was established with the mission
of “Need base Research” to uplift the farmers' economy. On the backdrop of this, the company has developed more than 150 varieties
and hybrids for about 35 field and vegetable crops. The organisation also has a strong manufacturing and marketing division of organic
inputs such as bio-fertilisers, bio-pesticides and Plant vitalizer’s extracts. NSPL celebrated its silver jubilee in 2013 and was acclaimed
by Prof. M.S Swaminathan, father of the Indian Green Revolution, who attended the mega event of silver jubilee celebration to address
the large gathering of the farmers. NSPL have many national and international collaborations with eminent Government and private
research organisations (such as Harvest Plus/Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Dow Agro Science - USA, QUT - Australia, TERI - India).
The company's research division is approved by the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, Govt. of India. The company
has an annual turnover of around 60 million Australian dollars and expanded its business wings recently to east Africa and Southeast
Asia. NSPL has its hundred percent subsidiaries in Mauritius and Ethiopia and has trade partners in Kenya, South Africa, Indonesia and
Korea. NSPL is speedily progressing in establishing sustainable seeds production model on 500 acres of land in Ethiopia.
Strategic partnership with QUT:
• Since 2011-12, through Professor Sagadevan Mundree, Nirmal seeds and QUT, have worked collaboratively on various aspects
of biotechnological interventions for improvement in agriculture outputs. The focus area of this collaborative work has been
transgenic rice development for drought and salinity tolerance using genes from resurrection plants and improvement of protein
content in pigeon pea with development of stress tolerance varieties in pigeon pea.
• Considering the importance of pigeon pea as a crop in Queensland and a focus area of the Indian Government on pigeon pea
(improvement of protein content and development of stress tolerance varieties in pigeon pea), NSPL-QUT has an in-principal
agreement to enter into a MoU for setting up an entity in Queensland.
